Customize a ruleset

Once a schema has been fetched, a ruleset can be customized. This is the process of applying algorithms to the data columns. To aid in that process, Delphix Compliance Services supports a combination of search, filter, sort, and batch actions that are described below.

Filtered Rules

In order to ease the editing of a ruleset, filtering is automatically applied to prevent unintentionally assigning an algorithm to data that cannot likely be masked because of constraints on the data store. In the upper right corner of the collection of rules is a drop-down with three options:

  • Show only default columns: This shows columns in the data store that Delphix has determined are likely to be maskable.

  • Show only advanced columns: This shows columns in the data store that Delphix has determined are not likely to be maskable. This includes fields that are not updateable, as well as fields that have a type of Address, Auto Number, Formula, Geolocation, Hierarchy, Lookup, or Roll-Up Summary (as those are not directly maskable).

  • Show all columns: This shows all columns.

You will find that if a data set does not have the necessary metadata to establish whether or not the data is maskable, all columns will be treated as though they are not maskable.

Edit

To edit the domain and algorithm of a single data field, click the target domain or algorithm cell to bring up a dropdown menu with the available options.

All domains will be available from the menu. After selecting a domain, the algorithms associated with that domain are pre-selected in the “Masking Algorithms” column. This helps narrow down the list of algorithms. Additionally, all algorithms that are not associated with any domain will also be available as part of the dropdown menu. Alternatively, by selecting “None” as the domain, all data type matching algorithms will be available.

When selecting a given domain, the “Masking Algorithm” field will be automatically populated and will be described as <algorithm_name> (default). This means that whenever the default algorithm for that domain is changed, the algorithm in this particular assignment will also change. This helps keep company-wide masking algorithms updated and changed in batch when needed. However, if the default algorithm selection is overridden with any algorithm not described as “default”, the selection will not change when default algorithms are changed.

Delphix Compliance Services offers a search bar along the top of the ruleset screen. Every ruleset column name or field can be searched through the search bar.

Filter

Delphix Compliance Services will enable users to filter each of the available columns. As part of the column header, a user can view an alphabetical list of the contents of each column and select values to filter data.

Sorting

All columns can be sorted in ascending or descending order.

Batch actions

A user can select a single row, multiple rows, or all rows in the ruleset customization screen to then apply certain batch actions. After selecting a number of rows, click the “Select Algorithm” button at the top to batch apply domains and algorithms to the highlighted rows. This follows the same rules as single rows described above.
